How to Ease Anxiety in an Anxiety Filled World

Anxiety does the best job at stealing joy and replacing it with fear, dread, and misery. Overcoming anxiety can become a mental battle. I have struggled with this more times than I can count over the years. Finding peace through God and his promises is where I find the joy that was stripped away from me. The christian perspective on anxiety points us to the source of where true peace is found.

Matthew 6:25-34 is a great source of encouragement and is filled with God’s truth. It starts out with the reminder from God to not be anxious about your like. God is in control and has a plan and a purpose for your life (Psalms 25:4-5, Proverbs 3:5, Proverbs 19:21, Philippians 1:6).

In a world filled with so much uncertainty, it can be very challenging to find peace. The constant worry about what tomorrow will bring or thinking what am I supposed to be doing with my life. It is so easy to find yourself feeling stuck. You may even feel like God is silent.

In times when my life has felt so uncertain, I found myself looking to peace, comfort, and security in the world. I search and search and yet find myself lacking peace, comfort, and security. Being human with a sinful heart, the world is our go to.

In Isaiah 55:2-3, God tells us to incline our ear to hear what is good. He reminds us to delight ourselves in rich food.

God is telling us metaphorically to listen and absorb the words of the bible which are filled with wisdom and words like honey that will bring healing and refreshment to us. The wisdom that is in these words are true, honorable, and filled with promise. True peace is found in God. Putting our faith in God knowing that he knows what is best for our lives.

The wisdom that you ingest, found only in the word of God, will nourish you.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean onto your own understanding or the worlds understanding, acknowledge him and he will direct your paths. Search for Him with all your heart.

How Can You Overcome Anxiety in an Anxiety Filled World?

Don’t look for satisfaction in life horizontally when it can only be found vertically.
These verses for anxiety provide that satisfaction.
Ask, seek, knock and He will be found by you (Matthew 7:7-11).

1. Ask

Call upon the Lord and pray to him and he will hear you (Jeremiah 33:3). Tell him what is on your heart. He cares for you.
Even in times when the words will not come, he tells us to pray the Lord’s prayer. For he knows what is on our hearts before we even begin to speak.

2. Seek

Matthew 6:33 tells us to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Seek him with all your heart. It can be in times of desperation when we see how dependent we are on God, and he is always there with open arms.

3. Knock

Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.
Psalms 25:4-5

The Lord will lead you and guide you. Knock and he will open the door – He will always be there for you.

Praise God that he who began a good work in you WILL see it to completion on the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6). We can find comfort in this. This does not mean that our anxieties will fade and never return. We live in a fallen world. I struggle with different anxieties everyday, but I know that I can turn to God for comfort, peace, and security.

I encourage you to seek first the Kingdom of God and I can ensure you that you will find peace where only true peace is to be found.
