Overcoming the Guilt of Our Sin

As Christians, we are free! But what does that mean exactly? How can you find this freedom in Jesus? Where can I find life and peace in such a dark world?

I still find myself feeling stuck in the bondages of sin. It is a struggle everyday in this world that we live in. Temptations are at our very grasp everywhere that we turn.

I often think how can I call myself a christian if I am such a sinner – I am not deserving. Well, no I am not, none of us are, but there is hope. A hope that will fill you with life and peace.

This does not mean that you will never sin again or be faced with temptations and hardships. As long as we are breathing on this earth we are sinners, dead because of our sin. BUT, if you are in Christ, accepting Him as your Savior, His Spirit dwells in you and His Spirit is life in you.

How encouraging is that. We are forgiven. As undeserving as we are, God who is rich in mercy, forgives us of our sin.

Overcoming the Lies of the Enemy

With that being said, it is natural for us in this world to feel so undeserving. That is what the enemy wants you to feel. He wants to convince you that God is not listening to you because of your sins. He wants you to feel so guilty that you run away from God. Instead, run TO God and find refuge in the shadow of his wings where true peace is found.

There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit has set you free (Romans 8:1-2). For the Spirit that raised Jesus from the grave LIVES IN YOU. He who lives in you is greater that he who lives in this world (1 John 4:4).

Be alert. Be awake. The enemies goal is to pull you further away from the God of mercy. He is out in this world ready to attack. He does not take a day off, and neither should we. Everyday we need to be ready for battle. Putting on the FULL armor of God so that we will be able to stand against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-20).

Walk in the Spirit and Be a Light to Others

Put your trust and you faith in Jesus. Abide in Him. Walk in the Spirit. When you do, you will have life, peace, and hope, and be eager to share with others so that they too can find Jesus. How beautiful is that.

To live in the Spirit, fully rooted in Christ, leads to a fully flourishing life. What does that mean? Striving to live like Jesus and abiding in him, you will produce flourishing fruits.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23

Producing this fruit will reflect in your thoughts and your actions. It will become who you are. This type of spiritual beauty points others to Jesus. You will become a light for all to see, and that light can never be overpowered by the darkness.

So where is life and peace found? It is found only in Jesus. Nothing of this world will every fill you with the peace we all long for.

Therefore, we must fix our eyes on Jesus. Not looking for peace horizontally but fixing our eyes vertically on the the author and perfecter of our faith, Jesus Christ, who longs to live in you.

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
Romans 8:5-7
